Citrus bioflavonoids enhance the efficacy of vitamin C and help reduce blood cell coagulation. They promote the growth of guinea pigs experiencing vitamin C deficiency by boosting vitamin C levels in the adrenal glands, spleen, and white blood cells.
Antiviral Effects:
Pre-treating guinea pig fibroblast cells with 200 µg/ml of citrus bioflavonoids before exposure to vesicular stomatitis virus can protect the cells from viral infection for about 24 hours. Similarly, treating HeLa cells in the same manner can help prevent influenza virus infection. However, this antiviral activity of citrus bioflavonoids can be neutralized by hyaluronidase.
